Dessert is a course that's usually served at the end of a meal. Typically, something sweet is served such as pie, trifle, cheesecake, fruits, ice cream, or tiramisu, just to name a few.
The word comes from the French language as dessert and this from Old French desservir, "to clear the table" and "to serve."

Cheesecake is a dessert made with soft cheese topping on a base made with biscuit, pastry, or sponge. The cheesecake top is usually sweetened and also flavored with a puree of some type of fruit.
Tiramisu is a popular Italian cake that is made by soaking savoiardi biscuits in espresso or strong coffee. The savoiardi is also known as lady finger biscuits. It's layered with a whipped mixture of egg yolk, mascapone, sugar, and topped off with cocoa.
Pies are baked dishes made with a pastry dough shell that contains a filling. There are meat pies as well, but obviously, for dessert, the pie filling is made up of various sweet ingredients.
Trifle is a dessert that made from thick custard, fruits, fruit juice, sponge cake, and whipped cream. These different ingredients are used to make layers of the trifle with fruit and sponge at the bottom, and custard and cream on top.
